Information Terrorism

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Trolling is a form of terrorism, a form of control. As with fighting any kind of terrorism, we cannot give in to our fears. Trolls get delight in causing panic and distress in people. By continuing to post, interact, and go on with our lives, we deprive these individuals of their power. Our best defense is to ignore them and continue on as we normally would.

Lots of Kids

Let me tell it from a troll’s point of view:

What is popular always dominates.

What is difficult is never popular.

Therefore, our society self-censors and removes a wide spectrum of important ideas because they are offensive, require cerebration, complex, unpleasant or simply not absolute, meaning that they apply universally to everyone everywhere always and therefore make us feel life is safe.

Death is certain… life is not. We are surrounded by death, and the more we try to banish it, the more we make. Wars to end all wars. Nanny states. Jobs and social roles so tedious death seems positive.

Trolls are forest fires. We attack the weak and the innocent, consume the refuse, and spit out a nice uniform layer of ash which fertilizes new generations.

You — the vast majority, who are now in absolute power — have ruined everything good about humanity by making it “safe.” Trolls oppose that. Our goal is to hurt you and wake you up. It’s a form of love, if you can think that far.

Allahu ackbar!

College credits for trolling the web

Monday, August 10th, 2009

“Some undergraduate and masters level courses at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary require trolling as part of their requirements. In William Dembski’s classes on Intelligent Design and Christian Apologetics, 20% of the final grades come from having made 10 posts defending Intelligent Design Creationism on ‘hostile’ websites. There seems to be no requirement that the posts contain original writing, apparently cut and paste jobs are sufficient. Is this the first case of trolling the net being part of course requirements?”

Slashdot

People would learn a lot more if they engaged their ideological enemies in this way.

Calling out the inverse

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Most people are good with accusing others of doing something, but poor at seeing how their same critique might apply to themselves. The only escape from this cycle, obviously, is not to take on a belief that is one side of a two-sided coin, or part of a cycle. That means you need a belief that’s fairly eternal and distinct.

Reddit, while I love it dearly, has a prevailing dogma that’s a slightly more controlling version of an authoritarian state — because it is invisible and administered by many individuals and not one state. It’s like a cross between a loan shark and the Soviet Union.

Here’s my satire of it:

I am so afraid.

Maybe the crowd does not like my ideas.

Maybe they don’t agree with me that people who use the pompous, self-aggrandizing, pretentious term “progressives” are completely out of touch with reality.

Whatever will I do?

Without the approval of the herd, I am nothing… no one! I will not have dates or beer buddies.

I am so afraid, and alone.

Children, learn your lesson well:

THERE IS NO HOPE
WITHOUT THE CROWD
NEVER OFFEND ALWAYS CONFORM

And remember, kids, it’s not the same kind of conformity that corporations and governments preach. No, if you’re a progressive, you’re DIFFERENT, even if you’re still trying to control each other’s minds instead of collaborating.

Reddit

So far, it seems to be stirring up the Crowd who are against any centralized power but perfectly fine with forcing each other to conform to “progressive” (pretentious) ideals so that none may rise above.

If you’ve got a Reddit account, join the fray!

Trolling metal hipsters

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

I decided to troll some metal hipsters, since hipsters, scenesters and associated fakes have invaded the heavy metal community in force for over a decade now. My guess was that if I told the simple truth, it would piss people off more than some ironic, contrived, public-image-oriented construction.

It seems I was correct.

Here’s the original message:

Official ANUS.com communique to all scenesters, hipsters and fakes

You came into this genre, which had an idea of its own.

Because you are weak, and you can't tell the difference between appearance and reality, you started using it for your own ends. To make yourself seem cool, either blockheaded kvlt or obliviously "open-minded."

You thought things like [artist]Dethklok[/artist] and brainless faux prog bands were really cool, in that ironic kind of hip way you like.

Everything you have done has not been about the music. It has not been about art or culture. It has been about you and your failing egos.

You want to make it a joke so you feel better about being the hopelessly normal and boring people you are. You want to hide how ordinary you are. We are not fooled.

We are taking this genre back. You, scenesters and hipsters and other people who do not understand the message behind this music and the spirit of its culture, are blight on a good thing. We are not interested in you or your failings.

Here is our official communication to you:
